User annotations

On Europeana Collections you will be gradually seeing more information which is labelled "user annotations". Annotations are user-contributed or system-generated enhancements, additions or corrections to (a selection of) metadata or media. An example an annotation is a tag (eg the tag "church" describing a photo of a church).

Where do annotations come from?

The annotations you see are coming from the Annotations API, via third party platforms and Europeana software such as Europeana Radio.

Creating new annotations

In the course of 2017 we will add the capability to create new annotations to the item pages, such as the capability to create tags or links between records. Until then, the only way to create new annotations is to use one of the platforms as mentioned above.
