As a pioneer, one of Bruno Fischer's tasks was to erect barbed wire barriers. He was in the dugout during the day, for which he had volunteered to avoid what was happening at the front. In this work he was safe. He came to the front in 1916 and was one of the last soldiers to be equipped with a spiked helmet.
