Willem was born on 4 June 1891 in the afternoon at 7.30 in the Haarlemmermeer, the first child of Dirk Johannes Bijl and Petronella Dalm. A healthy baby with blood group 0 (+). Father Dirk was then working on the Maria Hoeve, a farm located at Sloterweg no. 90 (old number) near Vijfhuizerweg. This farm was demolished in 1973 due to the expansion of Schiphol.
