Galette des Rois

Január 6-án, Epifánia napján ünneplik a vízkeresztet, amely a karácsonyi időszak végét jelzi. Ezen a napon a franciák Galette des Rois-t, azaz királyok lepényét esznek, amelybe egy figurát (fève) sütnek. Aki megtalálja, az lesz aznap a „király” vagy „királynő”. Az ünnep vallási eredetű, a három bölcs érkezését idézi fel, de a süteményhez kapcsolódó szokás pogány római hagyományokból ered.

The tradition of Epiphany and king cake

6 January is Epiphany, the day of the Magi or Three Kings, when people eat a cake with a trinket hidden inside. The person who gets the slice with the trinket in is crowned king.
