18 July - Bulgarian revolutionary Vasil Levski was born in 1873. Read Levski’s Ordinance, where he sets out the main principles of a democratic society and calls for the liberation of the Bulgarian people. 19 July - French impressionist Edgar Degas, most famous for his masterful depiction of human movement, was born in Paris in 1834. 21 July - Astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first man to step on the moon in 1969. "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind", Armstrong said as he made his first step. July 23 - The ice cream cone was invented by Charles E. Menches in 1904. July 24 - French novelist Alexandre Dumas was born in Villers-Cotterets in 1802. His works include The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo.
