User annotations

On Europeana Collections you will be gradually seeing more information which is labelled "user annotations". Annotations are user-contributed or system-generated enhancements, additions or corrections to (a selection of) metadata or media. An example an annotation is a tag (eg the tag "church" describing a photo of a church).

Where do annotations come from? Annotations are served via the Annotations API and come from third party platforms. We continue to work with new partners which provide annotations, adding context to records.
