This offering is made up of a complete walnut, partial hazelnut, and several pieces of mummy bread. During the Old Kingdom (c.2686-2181 BC) Herackleopolis was called Henen-Nesut and was the residence of the princes of the 20th Nome of Upper Egypt. By the IX Dynasty the princes were powerful enough to conquer Egypt for some time, continuing into the X Dynasty. These were overthrown in 2055 BC and Mentuhotep II began his reign (c.2055-2004 BC) also beginning the Middle Kingdom. Throughout the Middle Kingdom the royals and officials were buried at Gebel ed-Sedment and this continued as a necropolis until the Graeco-Roman period (c.332 BC - 394 AD).
