Postcards and trench art (letter opener) sent to Ireland from France | Deirdre Archer
Michael Hannon - postcards
The postcards were sent from France by my grandfather, Michael Hannon Pte. to his mother, Mrs. M. Hannon, in Dublin. He was a member of the Leinster Regiment British Expeditionary Force. His identification number was 4469. There are two sets of ten postcards. Each set when put together forms a large picture, one of Our Lady, and another of a French solder. They are quite special. The letter opener came from France and has 'Lille' inscribed on it. I don't know much about it. Pte. Hannon's great grandson is now a member of the British army and he wears his great randfather's medals in Iraq and Afghanistan.
