- Saint Jerome, who single-handedly translated the entire Bible into Latin in the years around 400 A.D, sits at a writing desk with his hands clasped tightly together reading a book, next to an inkwell and a skull. He is depicted in a sfumato atmosphere at half length in a pyramidal composition and the foreplane is offset by the red ground.
