Mickey O'Brien was born in London, England. She has played in various bands and worked in numerous collaborations both in live music and music for the visual arts and film. Although classically trained in piano and flute, starting at the age of eight, she has embraced many styles of music and opened herself up to a variety of influences. Her late teens saw her playing in a punk/rock band called Past Caring, and she was involved in the London scene, playing various venues and squat gigs around London. She then joined Ali Love and supported the likes of Mark Ronson on tour and was part of the arising London warehouse Electro scene. Her recent years have been playing in Grammy winning, Mercury nominated outfit La Roux. Currently, she is also one half of Tragic Toys, a band formed with her boyfriend of ten years, actor and musician, Jim Sturgess. On Twitter and Facebook it states she is playing keys with Rose Dougall for a one off gig with members of The Electric Soft Parade and Boxed In.
