Europeana 280

Europeana 280 Campaign is over now! A big thank you to all 158 Cultural Heritage Institutions that made it possible!
Read more about how it went in our wrap-up blog.

On 21 April 2016, Europeana launched Europeana 280, a cross-border campaign to get people excited about Europe’s shared art heritage by celebrating the diverse and magnificent artworks that are a part of it.

We invited all 28 EU Member States to nominate 10 or more pieces of art held in their country that have contributed to a major European art movement. We’re pleased to say that every country got involved, and Norway too. We started sharing some of these fascinating artworks in March, and have unveiled more throughout the campaign.

The campaign coincided with the launch of Europeana Art, one of our first thematic collection sites. All the artworks nominated for Europeana 280 have been shared here.

What can I look out for and how can I join in?

Everyone can still discover treasures from Europeana 280 online. From April to November 2016 people got involved in the #Europeana280 campaign through a series of virtual reality events and digital installations across Europe. You’ll still be able to enjoy artworks from all 29 countries in our unique virtual exhibition, Faces of Europe and through the related colouring app CREATE. And all of this will be supported by an ongoing social media campaign - be part of the campaign by joining us on Facebook and Twitter and follow, share and tweet - #Europeana 280. If you want to learn more about the campaign read our special 280 blog.
