Fritz Apsel was born on June 8, 1893 in Grodzisko, later Schloßberg, district of Angerburg in East Prussia, and attended elementary school until he was 14 years old. He then spent three years at the minting institute in Loetzen and another two years at the seminar in Angerburg.
