Sukia
Sukia
Sukia (shaman-healers) were intermediaries between the supernatural world and Central American societies. As spiritual leaders of their communities, they were responsible for funerary, healing or other ceremonies. They are often shown breathing in or breathing out psychotropic substances that led to an altered state of consciousness (shamanic transit), which was an important part of the rituals.
