My grandfather, John Grogan, was born in Carlow on 4 July 1896. He joined the Royal Army Medical Corps in 1914, at the age of 18.
During the war he was a stretcher bearer, and one of his medal records mentions Egypt as a theatre of war. According to my father, on the way to Gallipoli he was injured and picked up in the water near Greece, from where he was brought to England. He sustained a l…
