Thomas Hayes Towers was born in 1884, the son of Robert Towers a farmer of Scalthwaiterigg and Mary Hayes of Ladyford.
He was educated at Burneside School and then worked as an agricultural worker at Gilthwaiterigg and as a carter in Windermere amongst other places before the war.
He enlisted in the 7th Border Regiment and died during the Battle of Arras in an attack near Pelves on 23 …
