Large Diamond chair
In 1950, Hans and Florence Knoll engaged sculptor Harry Bertoia to design for their furniture company with an entirely open brief, resulting in a series of wire chairs that includes the Diamond chair. In order to bend the wires that compose the final form of the chair, Bertoia developed a machine wherein each pre-shaped wire had to be placed in a special jig and welded into shape by hand. Today, …
