Diwan
Sunken panels. Persian, 16th century. Dark brown goatskin, decorated with gilt-blocked panels with a scallopedged centrepiece, and a protective fore-edge flap decorated in similar fashion. This classic Persian style of book decoration was the direct influence on Venetian bindings of the later 16th century.
