Hindoo religious car [?Madras].

A photograph of a Ratham or temple car, Madras
from the 'Vibart Collection of Views in South India' taken by an
unknown photographer about 1860. Temple cars are used on special
feast days to convey images from the temple around the town in
ceremonial procession. They are richly decorated with flags and
wreaths of flowers and people assemble from many miles around to
celebrate the occasion.
