This photograph is of Thilloy, near Bapaume. It is a scene of total destruction and devastation. It is very difficult to imagine that this was once a village. Not one building has escaped damage. The road is extremely muddy and strewn with debris from the buildings. The Germans used the phrase 'Gott Strafe England', (God Punish England) during World War I.
