Portrait of Robert Muys and his Wife Maria Nozeman
Rotterdam artist Nicolaes Muys portrayed his brother Robert, an engraver, with his wife Maria in the year they were married. Maria plies needle and thread with a silver thimble. Robert is showing one of his own prints of a scene from a play performed in the local theatre in 1778. The silver tea urn on the table reflects the latest fashion.
