Base of a cult object
The creativity of the Syrian clay artists is not only expressed in the terracotta figurines, but also in the dishware and cult objects. Cylinder seals depict the various stands, supporting pateras, reservoirs for burnt offerings or incense burners. Apart from simple geometrical decoration, this trumpet-shaped stand was also embellished with triangular openings, possibly referring to the pubic area…
