Fairies of the Meadow

Blommér was one of the artists who wanted to create a national Swedish art in the mid-19th century with subjects taken from Norse myths and legends. Here, Blommér has painted fairies dancing in a meadow at twilight. In the background of the romantic landscape we see Gripsholm Castle.
