Philip Webb. Glassware for William Morris's The Red House. One of 15 designs for table glass and glassware. British, c.1860

The glasses in this working drawing for manufacture were intended for Red House, which was designed for the newly-married William Morris. The large jug is derived from a sixteenth century medieval ceramic shape. The large drinking glass is taken from a Venetian or German beaker.
