Office equipment used at Dunhills Ltd liquorice works. Dunhills is the earliest Pontefract liquorice company. By 1720 the Dunhill family rented the land in Pontefract Castle for growing liquorice. By the 1760s George Dunhill, who became a chemist, is reputed to have added sugar to medicinal recipes to make the first liquorice sweet. The family ran the business until 1883.
