MEDIEVAL BULLA

A cast, lead alloy papal bulla of Pope Nicholas IV (AD 1288-92). As usual, the obverse depicts Saints Paul and Peter. The reverse has the Pope's name in three lines, NICO/LAUS/PP IIII. The bulla has a light cream-coloured patina. It is damaged at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock where it has a vertical hole running through the bulla for the attachment string.
