MEDIEVAL THIMBLE

A complete copper alloy Medieval to post-Medieval sheet metal open thimble or 'sewing ring' dating from about 1450-1550. The sewing ring is circular in plan and the sides taper inwards from the base towards the top. The outer face has five rows of spiralling sub-rectangular indentations that spiral from the base towards the top. The metal is a mid green colour with soil still in the indents. Com…
