Phoeniculus purpureus (J F Miller): PHOENICULIDAE: green wood-hoopoe

These nimble birds live in the trees in small groups. Only one pair of birds in the group will breed each year but the young will be raised by the whole group. They use their long curved beaks to probe tree bark for invertebrate prey. - -
