Dudley Castle with Lime Kilns

Cox was a Birmingham artist, who was inspired by the view of Dudley Castle perched on its rocky limestone outcrop. He painted several versions of the subject, focusing on the rural nature of the scene rather than the industrial development which by the 1830s was beginning to surround the castle.
