The key has a decorative bow, which incorporates a laurel wreath and stylised leaves and swirls in its design. It is inscribed in the centre of the bow 'Presented to Miss Jane Mills, of Whitton Court, near Ludlow, on the occasion of the opening of the Girls' Institute, Darlaston, by the Architect, CWD Joynson, 14th March, 1901'.
