Mary Howitt

Mary Howitt (1799-1888) was an author and wife of William Howitt. The Howitts were among the pioneers in the education of the common people in the first half of the nineteenth century, and were lovers of nature and quietness, being members of the Society of Friends. She wrote thirteen books, mostly representing the charms of nature. She also wrote for children, including 'The Spider and the Fly'. …
