Beastmarket Hill, Newark

Showing the Ossington Coffee Palace and Church Spire. The Ossington Coffee Palace (left) was built in 1882 by Vicountess Ossington as a temperance hotel. Situated opposite the Cattle Market it was intended to lure farmers away from the town pubs. It was never very successful. The 18th century town house beneath the church was the home of the Warwick brewing family. (Antoine)
