Oldknow's House, 27, Friar Gate

The architect of 27, Friar Gate was possibly Joseph Pickford who purchased four plots of ground on this stretch of the street in 1768. The house was built for John Oldknow of the cotton family. A cast iron clock-face and mechanism was added to the east facing wall on Ford Street when the road was widened in the 1930s.
