With the motto "Cavendo tutus" which means Safe by Being Cautious. The Cavendish's have lived at Chatsworth since it was built in the mid-sixteenth century. This image is one of a collection by the famous local antiquarian, Thomas Bateman, of Middleton by Youlgreave. (1821-1861).
