Landscape study, Limestone Tor, Derwent Valley

This view is inscribed on verso 'T G 1798', proof that it was owned by Thomas Gisbourne, a friend of Wright's, but it is considered to be by Joseph Wright. Joseph Wright of Derby is considered on of the most important painters of his day. He was born in Iron Gate, Derby, on the 3 September 1734.
