Foundations for new Calcining Kilns

Concrete arches forming the bases for the range of new calcining kilns at Old Works with shuttering for more bays to the right. This was part of Stanton's replacement of its old nineteenth century blast furnaces with modern, high capacity examples in the late 1920s. The photographer is looking north with the Cowper stoves for the blast furnaces on the left and the Slag Bank in the background.
