Derby Corporation Waterworks

Derby Corporation Waterworks at Little Eaton showing the collection tank and engine houses. The works were established in 1848 and replaced the pumping station erected by George Sorocold on the River Derwent at the bottom of St Michael's Lane in 1692. The new works were notable for collection water by means of perforated brick tunnels constructed in the gravels of the Derwent nearby
