Calcining kilns at Old Works

Looking north alongside the calcining kilns at Old Works with the wagon hoist nearest. Iron ore was heated in these kilns to drive off water and impurities, but they were made redundant by the commissioning of Stanton's Ore Preparation Plant in 1959. Iron ore hopper wagons stand to either side of the kilns, while to the right is one of wooden cooling towers serving Old Works.
