Textile design: Tree Design

RU CRE MACKINTOSH, Charles Rennie; (Scottish; 1868-1928) This design was produced during the years the Mackintoshes were living in London, 1915-1923. Plant forms were abstracted by Mackintosh to create repeat patterns suitable for printed textiles. The vivid, bold colours suggests the influence of the 'Ballet Russes', as well as contemporary painting through the richness and freedom of the design.
