quartz var. agate; grey and white banded showing "unrivalled tube of escape"; cut and polished

*non loc.* unknown Very fine. Label in Heddle's handwriting states "A.L. Unrivalled tube of escape. The manner in which every layer assumes a trumpet mouth in keeping with the sheathof the tube, the different layers of the tube itself, the gradual thinning towards the centre and the quartose nature at the centre ...[?]... are all admirably disclosed" Figured in Min. of Scot., but is this Scottish? [NB Nick Lorimer reckons it looks like a Fife agate -maybe Norman's Law?]
