quartz; banded in shades of red, with cream calcite filling central cavity; sawn and polished concretion

Dulcote Quarry, Wells, Somerset, England [Dolomitic Conglomerate], [Triassic] Nice. One of a suite bought at auction from Sotheby's in 1972-3, for research into agate genesis at SURRC, East Klibride. Lot numbers (and hence prices) can't be unambiguously matched with specimens now. The Sotheby's catalogue gives "Gloucestershire" for all these specimens, but Julian Jocelyn confirmed with the original seller that they were in fact from Dulcote Quarry in Somerset.
