"Portrait of the artist" 1862

"60" CRE HADEN, Francis Seymour, Sir; (English; 1818-1910) In this early self-portrait, made before his friendship with Whistler had been broken off, Haden depicts himself in his role as surgeon, at a table with medical apparatus. His more famous self-image (Hands Etching, GLAHA 1888) shows just the hands accompanied by a quotation from the Latin poet Horace.
