Cabinet for insect collection

The drawers are 18th Century (c. 1770s) and original to William Hunter's museum in Windmill St, London. They contained his collection of pinned insects which was curated and new species described by J C Fabricius and G A Olivier. The drawers came to Glasgow in 1807 and were then housed in two matching cabinets constructed by an (unknown) Edinburgh maker. By 1813 they were on display in the new Hunterian Museum, mentioned by Laskey in his account of the displays published in that year.
