Camera Lucida

None MANU unknown 19th century United Kingdom The camera lucida would have been used as a visual tracing aid for artists. The technique was especially popular in the nineteenth century. The instrument would cast an image of the scene the artist wished to depict, onto the drawing surface. This allowed him or her to trace or delineate points in direct perspective.
