ALFORMANT A R L P THE FORMALIN HYGIENE COMPANY (on a brass plaque on the front) MANU The Formalin Hygiene Co Turn of 20th century 3 Lloyd's Avenue London E.C.3 England This lamp would have been used for disinfecting rooms, bedding, furniture etc. All windows would be closed and sealed, formalin tablets placed in the blue container at the top and then the spirit lamp as the base would be lit. The nurse would leave the room, cloes and seal the door and leave it for around 24 hours. The tablets would give off an antiseptic vapour as the heat dissolved them.
