Window, Spynie, Morayshire c.1889

RU s. b.r. "CRM."; inscr. b.l. "SPYNIE" CRE MACKINTOSH, Charles Rennie; (Scottish; 1868-1928) Mackintosh visited nearby Elgin in 1889, and probably made this watercolour on that trip. Spynie Palace is one of Scotland's most impressive medieval monuments, dating back to the late 14th-century. In its day it was the grandest surviving Bishop's Palace in Scotland.
