"THE GLASGOW/ INSTITUTE/ OF THE FINE ARTS/ OPEN FEBRUARY TILL MAY" DES MACDONALD, Margaret; (English; 1864-1933) DES MACDONALD, Frances; (English; 1873-1921) DES McNAIR, James Herbert; (Scottish; 1868-1955) PRINT Carter & Pratt, Glasgow Mackintosh and the other members of the Group of Four - McNair and the Macdonald sisters - took up poster design in the mid 1890s, taking advantage of recent developments in the technique of lithography. The resultant small group of posters prompted a range of critical response in the local press for their often extreme stylisations of the human form. Their designs were exhibited in London, Venice and Turin, to critical acclaim, and helped to promote the young artists and their work.
