This specimen is associated with a label saying it is from north America but the family does not occur there. There may have been some mistake in placing it here as another example (141655) in the same drawer was described a new species as *maculatus* by Fabricius in 1787. This specimen may orginally have been with that other one as clearly they are the same. In that scenario it could be considered part of the type series.
Many of the specimens in Hunter's eighteenth century collection were utilised by Fabricius and other contemporary entomologists for describing new species.
