r: "A woman holding a pink fan" v: "Study of a woman holding a fan" c.1896

Glass mount; 34.7 x 24.6 s. with a butterfly; c.r. CRE WHISTLER, James McNeill; (American; 1834-1903) The figure on the verso is a study of the same figure as drawn on the recto. It is touched with similar colour, (pinks and a purple cap), with the legs facing the other way.
