*Papilio arctous* Fabricius, 1775 syntype

Australia This specimen is from William Hunter's collection which was utilised by Fabricius and Olivier in describing many new species. The collection contains types from other contemporary entomologists such as Drury.
These butterflies were seen and commented on by Harish Gaonkar in November 2003, as part of his research on Oriental/Australasian butterflies.

This species was described by Fabricius from specimens brought back by Joseph Banks from Cook's first voyage. As that is the only possible source for these specimens they are considered to be possible syntypes.
