s., d. and inscr. b.r.: "NEWTON CASTLE / BLAIRGOWRIE / C R M M M M / 1909" CRE MACKINTOSH, Charles Rennie; (Scottish; 1868-1928) Mackintosh's drawing depicts the late 16th-century tower house from the west, with its new wing of 1883 to the left and its round tower, surmounted by a rectangular attic (centre left). The gable of its south-facing three-storey main block and square south-eastern stair tower are at the right. In 1909 the Castle was let to Mackintosh's friend, Charles Ogilvie (see James Macaulay, 'Charles Rennie Mackintosh', New York: Norton, 2010, p. 273. The page has been inaccurately numbered "45" in an unknown hand.
